Glad to see you are back blogging.
Laura is pregnant again.Zeke and Marian are inseparable and doing fine.
Zack, Wanda, Braden and Blaine are clicking along also.
Blaine appears to have peanut and, I think, milk allergies.more allergies are probably in the offing.
Zack couldn’t do cow milk when he was little either.
Made some ‘old timey’ fermented dill pickles this year-pickle-barrel type. They are wonderful.
We dehydrated green beans, squash, okra and hot peppers from the garden this year. Much easier than canning!
I did can 30 quarts of cooked-down tomato sauce this year along with 36 half-pints of fig preserves.
Chickens are still laying enough eggs to keep us out of that section of the grocery store.
We will be eating garlic from last year’s crop for a couple of more months, with enough left over to have planted an even larger plot this year. It stays in the ground
from Columbus day ’till the middle of June. The home-grown garlic is much, much better than the store-bought stuff.
The winter garden is coming along. I hope to get enough cabbage to make about ten gallons of sauerkraut in the spring. Brussels sprouts and assorted
greens make up the rest of the winter items. We use the young mustard, turnip, Swiss Chard, radish and kale greens for great salads.when they get
more mature we do the ‘greens’ thing. I don’t even like spinach any more-too bland. Being able to grow food year-round is a Mississippi plus.
William and I built a charcoal maker this year large enough to do a 55-gal. drum of charcoal at a time. We are getting ready to try it out now that the
weather is cooling off. We also dug a shallow well and slapped a hand-pump on it.
I sure do enjoy messing around with all this stuff.saves a bunch of $$ too.
